Calligraphy (Hat in Turkish) was formed around the letters of Quran. This art consisted of simple figures when it spread to Arabs through its origin Nebat tribe of Phoenicians, became important along with Islam. Turks engaged in calligraphy after they had come to Anatolia and they had their brightest period during Ottomans. In calligraphy, the basic tool is the pen. And mostly the reed was used as a pen. The ink and paper are prepared specially and the person doing calligraphy is called Hattat.
