The stone which had been used as a construction material by Neolithic period in Turkey was widely used in especially monumental construction by Turks moved to Anatolia in 11th century. Ahlat is one of the important centers of stonemasonry because there are many stone materials suitable for dressing, various types of stones, construction technology inherited from the past civilizations and ancient traditions. Ahlat is district of Bitlis city located near Van Lake in East Anatolia.
